The Gotz American Girl dolls (I don't know about the Mattel ones) and the Little Sister dolls all have that string tied at their necks. Does anyone know the purpose of this string and whether it can be trimmed off? I would love to trim it off, as it tends to get in the way when dressing my dolls. But I'm scared to trim it without knowing what it's for! Does anyone know? Has anyone cut it off before?
Thanks.

I believe that string is what hold the doll's head on! It's probably not a good idea to cut it.

Yeah, don't cut it off! But you can take a crochet hook or knitting needle and poke it down inside the doll's body. That way it's there when you need it, but it's not hanging out and getting in the way. I hate the darned things too. LOL!

What an excellent idea! Thank you, Jane! The strings on my AG dolls get so bothersome when I'm trying to fasten clothing in back. I wasn't going to cut the string but never thought of tucking it into the body. That is great.

yeah I think that strings supposed to be there, always thought it held their eyes in. So cutting it wouldn't be a good idea, whatever it's holding in place

Ditto on it getting in the way though,I always snag it on the velcro.

Yes, another vote on the sting back pet peeeve it really does bother me. I get inexpenvse (or sew) undershirts to get those blasted things out of the way. But another don't cut it you don't want your doll to loose her head.

Yeah, you definitely don't want to cut the string. It's what holds the doll's head on - if you were to untie it, it would loosen the fabric around the doll's neck and the head would come off. It's not hard to re-tighten it and tie it up again, but if you cut it and it came untied, it would be.
